With our move to the Barker Block, we have decided to change with the growing demands of our large customer base. Our focus will be daycare, grooming, and essential pet supplies. We are looking forward to becoming a part of the Arts District. We know that you will enjoy the convenience of ample street parking and having a fun, clean, and safe environment to bring your dog.

The Loftydog @ 120 W. 2nd St. will be closing February 29th, 2008. We have decided to LEAP this year into a 7,000 sq. foot warehouse that will facilitate all of your growing needs as pet parents and urban loft dwellers.

Top Ten U.S. and Los Angeles Breeds

The American Kennel Club just released it's top 10 most popular dog breeds in the US, according to AKC registration. And the winners are...

Los Angeles' top dogs are:

Judging by the dogs that come into The LoftyDog, I'd say that the Downtown Los Angeles dog population wasn't well represented. We see more Shih Tzus, a breed that didn't even make the Los Angeles Top 10, than almost any other breed. Here's my prediction - look to the Shih Tzu to break through and crack next year's list for top Los Angeles breeds.

Interesting notes:

• This is the first time since 1935 that the Bulldog has ranked in the U.S. top 10.


• Los Angeles sets the trend again - the Bulldog is most popular in Los Angeles, having made the Los Angeles Top 10 for three consecutive years.


• San Francisco and Los Angeles were the only cities in the nation to include the French Bulldog in their Top 10 lists.

november yappy hour: a bark day party!

Did I say that I would post pictures tomorrow from the Yappy Hour? I meant next week. Time flies when you're a puppy!

Last Yappy Hour wasn't just any Yappy Hour, it was also a birthday party for my friend Coyote Cute! We had cake, wore hats, and had a lot of fun.

November Downtown Dogwalk tonight!

Anybody else headed over to Pershing Square for the monthly Downtown Dogwalk? We meet once a month on the 2nd Wednesday at 6pm in Pershing Square and walk our furry friends to green spaces close by to advocate for an off-leash dog park for downtown dogs. Hope to see you and your pooch there!

Why Some Pets Hate Halloween

Last night's Howl-O-Ween Party at The Lofty Dog was a great success! The place was jam-packed with dogs and their owners, dressed in their scariest, cutest, and funniest costumes, all hoping to win prizes and bragging rights. We just got the pictures from our Howl-O-Ween Fashion Show earlier this month during the October Yappy Hour. Don't these dogs look great?






That's Wonton on the left dressed as an elephant, Pablo dressed as a tiger, Bichonie as an adorable bichon, Cody as a devil and Laila as a bumblebee.







As if she didn't have her hands full enough, Wonton's mom Celia looks after Laila while the rambunctious pups roughhouse at their feet.






This friendly pooch was just happy to be around so many friendly people and dogs. Was it really his birthday or was that his costume?






The bumblebee costume is a popular choice for many dogs this Halloween season.






Even Wonton tried being a bumblebee before changing into his elephant costume.






Elephants were the second most popular costume choice. Looking good!



The Howl-O-Ween Fashion Show was great fun and a big hit with downtown dogs and their owners. The main event, however, is happening from 7 to 9pm on Halloween - The Lofty Dog's Howl-O-Ween Party! Stay tuned, details to come!

This month, to help you find the perfect costume for your pet, we are presenting a Howl-O-Ween Fashion Show, featuring the latest in pet costumes modeled by real downtown dogs. So come on down, catch the show, have a few drinks, let the dogs get acquainted, and maybe even try on a few costumes - before all the good ones are taken!

Downtown Dog Walk

One of our favorite downtown dogs, Dodger, has partnered with the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council to host the inaugural Downtown Dog Walk. Dodger and his owner Ken even started a Yahoo newsgroup for all interested Downtown residents and their canine companions.

From the newsgroup:

Come out Wednesday October 10, 2007 at 6:30 pm for the first Downtown dog walk and community gathering. Come meet your downtown neighbors and their dogs as we tour the streets of downtown.

Help make downtown Los Angeles a dog friendly community and help encourage City Hall to allocate public space for off leash dog parks!
